Jim’s lifetime in photography began at an early age when he borrowed his mother’s camera. High school brought on more photography using another borrowed camera (Leica) from his uncle. After graduating from high school he spent the summer in the library reading every book they had on photography.
With this basis he attended the U of Miami and took several photography courses.
Knowing this is what he wanted to pursue he left the university and took a job with a commercial/advertising photographer.
Some time later he went to work with a portrait studio that specialized in weddings and Senior portraits.
At this time he photographed weddings for many other studios as well as 3 of the major Retailers in the city of Miami. No matter where someone booked a wedding there was a good chance Jim would show up.
After trying other jobs out of the photo industry he settled into photography his true calling.
Yearbook photography provided the opportunity to learn all type of sports shooting as well as the Senior portrait business. With contracts with 4 or five schools he continued for over 10 years in this business.
During this time because he couldn’t find a color lab he was happy with he opened up his own. Soon other photographers wanted him to print for them and this business prospered.
Getting into the Carriage trade in Miami he worked for many years photographing Weddings and Bar Mitzvahs
Time to get out of Miami he moved to New Smyrna Beach with his wife.
At a fellow photographers advice he took up Senior photography again this time with an actual studio building fully equipped along with a outdoor Portrait park on premises.
Being so close to the beach and after some requests, family portraits on the beach became a new love.
What next? Horse photography he muses?
